Dr.Mohammed bin Abdulaziz AlGhafees

Director of the Decision Support Center

Mohammed Al-Ghafees holds a Ph.D. degree in computer science (Software Engineering), and he has worked for the government of Saudi Arabia since 1988. Before that, he attended King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) and completed a BS degree in Systems Engineering. He completed two MS degrees from Florida Tech: one in Computer Information Systems (1998) and another in Engineering Management (1999).

During his information and communications technology (ICT) career at the Ministry of Defence (MOD; 1988–2011), he moved among a wide range of positions, from an application developer to a systems analyst to a systems tester and to the leadership of the development team for years. He led the computer department at the MOD during the years 2003–2011. Dr. Al-Ghafees was the general manager of a computer department at the Armed Forces that was responsible for providing all kinds of ICT services to the MOD and that included 30 military attaché offices around the world. This department was also responsible for providing Internet services to all Armed Forces, for constructing and hosting the E-Transactions program, and for all aspects of information security.

Dr. Al-Ghafees joined academia in early 2013 as a faculty member at the Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, and he was the vice dean and the chair of the Computer Science Department.

Today, Dr. Al-Ghafees is the director of the Decision Support Center (DSC), a strategic partnership between King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and Boeing for the defense and security sector.
